ABOUT AVISTO

A glimpse into the hearts and minds of our aging loved ones.

Our goal for Avisto is to provide art engagement and guidance for seniors using a variety of mediums.  This program identifies a creative outlet for participants to express themselves through art.  Sessions are led by local volunteer artists that want to a make a difference and touch the lives of seniors.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM 

AVISTO STUDIO
Impacting the lives of those with Dementia.

Our flagship program is through a partnership with the H'Art Gallery and their on-staff Art Therapist, Brooke Montague.  We have developed a program for those impacted by some form of Dementia.  

**All classes are held at the H'Art Gallery on Main Street**

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Finding Textures

TUESDAY, APRIL 9 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will use oil pastel on gessoed paper. They will rub textures onto the surface and fill empty space with watercolor resist or use odorless paint thinner to create fluid oil paint.

Pet or Person Pastel Portrait

TUESDAY, APRIL 16 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will create a portrait of their pet or their person with chalk pastel on pastel paper from a photo they bring. The photo image will be simplified to a line drawing and enlarged with a projector for a low-pressure portrait of a special someone.

Still Life Treasure Drawing

TUESDAY, APRIL 23 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will create a still life with charcoal on a gessoed book page base. Participants will bring a treasured item to share or select from a box of items to create the still life set up.

Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover

TUESDAY, APRIL 30 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will paint the cover of an old book with acrylic paint. They will select book pages to illustrate the “story of their life” with paint pen illustrations and found word poems.

Plein Air Painting

TUESDAY, MAY 7 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will create a watercolor painting on watercolor paper in our outdoor garden setting. Easel and chair will be provided.(Weather dependent, will swap activity of May 14th if weather does not permit painting outdoors.)

Photography Project

TUESDAY, MAY 14 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will use alcohol ink to manipulate a photo of their choice on photo paper.

Art Show 

TUESDAY, MAY 21 1:00 - 3:00

Participants will display their work created over the past six weeks.  Friends and family are invited to come and enjoy refreshments and have the opportunity to purchase any available works.
